Sad Elf

Oh you guys.  It is so not my day.  First of all, this wasn't my intended outfit for the day.  You ever visualize an outfit in your head much better than when you go to put it on?  Oh yeah, that happened.  I had on an entirely different look this morning and realized with about five minutes to spare that it was so NOT going to work, so I threw this together rather hastily.  First world problems, whomp whomp.  This isn't even the thing that is really getting me down though.

I had bought the Pants Monkey an amazing Christmas gift before Thanksgiving even.  It was a Living Social event, which we have done several of before, where we'd get to go on a trolley tour of several area breweries, finishing up with dinner at Pizza Luce.  It appeared to be a pretty popular deal as I saw it sold out very quickly.  But I guess shame on me, I should have been prepared that sometimes things don't work out, because yesterday I got an email from Living Social stating "we regret to inform you that this event has to be cancelled.  You will be refunded your entire amount."  Um, crap!!!

Floral shirt - Decree, JCPenney
Sweater - Aeropostale (old)
Jeans - Maurices
Necklace and shoes - thrifted
Earrings - swap with CC

So now with 11 days until Christmas, I suddenly have more shopping to do.  I do have an idea for a partial replacement, so that's a good thing I guess, but I'm still really depressed that this happened.  This is my one time of year to really spoil my Pants Monkey.  He works hard at a job he really doesn't love, he participates in our music group even though it isn't always his favorite thing to do, he cooks us so many yummy meals during the year and he is the best husband ever so he deserves the best gift.  So, I'm not just a sad panda, I'm a sad elf. And it's going to be crappy weather this weekend now, so shopping isn't going to be easy.  But it will happen.  I will prevail!

Then as soon as I got to work this morning, I spilled my coffee.  So the pictures today aren't my best effort, but you do what you can when the universe is telling you to go back to bed!

I hope you all have a great weekend and I promise, come Monday I'll be a much happier Bethie!!

  1. I am so sorry you are having a bad day sweetie!! I do happen to think your back up gift is an excellent idea. I hope that your day gets better! And your outfit is super cute even if it wasn't what you intended! {{hugs}}

  2. Awww, bummer Beth! I am sorry that happened. :( But, it just was not meant to be, and I know you will find something amazing to replace it! :) You are so sweet, adn he sounds like her really deserves to be spoiled. :) I hope you find the perfect thing, mama.

  3. What a bummer! I think we all have those days or weeks where when it rains it pours. There is just something about this time of year that make things seem crazier. Good luck with your gift shopping this weekend. You will prevail! Heather

  4. At least it looks like your coffee didn't land on your pretty white sweater, Mrs. Elf. Sending you big virtual hug. You'll find something else terrific for Pants Monkey and what a great post about his awesomeness. That's pretty cool in itself.

  5. Awww... sorry, pal. Things will brighten up. What matters most is how you feel about PM because that will express itself in some way he'll see and appreciate. Hang in there.

  6. Awww... bummer about the present not working out. But I am sure you will find something even better!
And for a last minute outfit, you look adorable. :-)

  7. Ugh that really stinks that they cancelled the gift. But I know you'll think of something wonderful for him! Hope you have a great weekend, Beth!

    Earrings Giveaway!

  8. Oh no! That is a bummer...I have a really hard time shopping for my hubby too, for the same reasons-I want to get him something great for all the things he does for me throughout the year! Luckily, it's the thought that counts and I'm sure your guy will appreciate that you tried and it wasn't your fault that it got cancelled. Good luck shopping, and you look great as always! Love the red shoes soo much.

  9. Oh no, what a day. I'm so sorry about your gift not working out, it did sound like an awesome idea. I'm sure you'll find something he'll like just as much though. I hope your weekend goes better!!

  10. yes Bethie! my Mom could get away with it because of living in Utah, too. get this; my Mom served as a missionary in Wisconsin in 1993. she bought a new long wool coat for that winter. that winter is snowed horribly in Utah and there was just a mild winter in Wisconsin that year and she hardly wore that coat the entire winter. with Minnesota being neighbors to Wisconsin, i understand. but we got snow this year before you guys. we have had 3 big storms and it melts all away in two days each time. due for more on sunday, here.

stay warm. your sweater combo on top is enchanting with the long necklace! great look.

  11. Ah, man! It sounds like you're having a rough day. Sorry, Beth. That sucks that the Living Social event was cancelled! It sounded like fun and perfect for you and the Pants Monkey! Boo. But you will think of something great for him, I just know it! I hope your day starts looking up and that you have a great weekend! xoxo.

  12. I'm sorry your gift fell through. I'm kind of in the opposite position where someone got me this amazing thing and now I have very little to give him and also have to re-think my plans.

Even though this outfit wasn't the one you planned, it looks really adorable and comfy.

  13. Even though it wasn't the outfit you had planned, it looks super cute!!! Sorry to hear about the Living Social deal - I'm sure that what you get Nate will be fabulous!

  14. Oh what a shame! It's horrid when things go wrong and you feel wretched for moaning about it (ie. first world probs) because you think there are worse things happening, but it still doesn't make the situation any easier!

  15. Shucks!!! We all have days like these and they are not the best. I still have to shop for JB too because he is the pickiest man alive, lol, so you are not alone! Big hugs for you my friend.
Also, for having picked out this outfit in a second, I think it looks great on you!!!
    Have a great weekened, lady!

  16. I am so sorry that your day is going so terrible! I fully understand the frustration of not finding a good gift for a loved one. At least you look awesome today, what a lovely shirt!

I hope this weekend gets better for you, good luck on the hunt for the perfect gift!

  17. Same here pal. you at least look lovely, great top

  18. Well, darn it. So sorry, Bethie. Good luck on your replacement shopping and I hope your weekend is better!

  19. Aww, sorry about the PM's gift. That really sucks. You'll find a good replacement.

Your outfit still turned out really cute. Hopefully you'll have a better day tomorrow. Things will turn around. I know life sometimes feels like one thing after another compounds into frustration, but it'll settle out. Keep your chin up, Bethie.

  20. I still haven't purchased a gift for my husband! I'm really stumped this year and quite frustrated. What do you get a man who buys everything he needs for himself? He leaves nothing for me :( I hope you're able to find something wonderful for him!

  21. Oh, I hate days that end up like that. So sorry to hear about the cancelled event and split coffee. But I am sure the weekend will turn it right around. I think this outfit turned out adorable and looks incredibly comfortable. I love the chunky white cardigan!

  22. Sorry it was not your day! Hate that feeling...hope tomorrow is better :) Cute floral top anyways!
