Just Between Friends sale

I've talked on here a little bit before about the awesomeness of the Just Between Friends consignment sale. It's a periodic sale that comes up about three times a year. It's a great place to get deals on secondhand kids clothes and gear and also for moms to be to get maternity items or nursing items.  I went to my first sale last October while I was still pregnant and then to my second sale in March when Oliver was three months old. The deals are just too good to resist especially with the speed that kids grow out of things sometimes!

The latest sale near me is just wrapping up and this time I decided to take a chance and actually try to sell some of the stuff Ollie has outgrown and also my fall and winter maternity clothes.  We are likely one and done on kids (more on this another day) and if we aren't, well, most of these items are cheap enough to replace and I just don't have storage space, so I figured, let's just see what I can get for it if I try to sell it and it'll free up room at home!  I will say - it was a bit of a hassle getting everything ready though I have learned a great deal to make it easier on myself in the future.  Basically you can price everything yourself which is awesome.  If you're willing to let the unsold items go for half price on the last day and then be donated at the end, you also have a $12 consignment fee waived.  The pricing is a lot of work, you have to enter in all your items into their specially set up website and then print the tags on white cardstock.  However, you can enter your tags into the system all year long, not just at sale time.  Now that I know this, I could easily just enter in items as Ollie outgrows them instead of trying to enter in a bunch of items at once.

The other sort of annoying thing is that all the clothes must be hung on plastic hangers and you have to pin the tag a certain way and the items must be hung a specific way.  I didn't read the directions well enough before going to drop off my items and when I showed up, they had me re-do almost everything.  I know, you're probably thinking, I would have just walked out the door at that point.  I was tempted to do that, but since I was already there, I just went ahead and made the fixes.  It was all worth it in the end - I can check my progress online.  Today is the last day of the sale and I've already made over $100.  Yep.  I'll be doing this again!  I have knowledge for next time to make it way easier on myself!

Of course, I did spend some money at the sale, but I'll still come out ahead in the end.  We made a nice haul for Oliver for fall and winter. He'll have plenty of warm clothes.  And he has a couple of new toys too.  It's a great place to look for some of the bigger, interactive type toys.

Overall it's a really great program I feel.  I know that there are perks to volunteering with them as well and I think for the spring/summer sales I just might try doing that as well!  I highly recommend looking into whether or not your city has a JBF program if you are a mom or mom to be - not just to shop, but to try and offload all the things you no longer need - they take clothing all the way up to junior sizes!

  1. I have the easiest way of getting rid of our kids' clothes....cousins! Mimi gets all of Eva's stuff, and Eva loves to see her wearing it. I guess I don't get money, but it's worth it to see Eva's old clothes on such a cutie!! I'm so happy you made some money for all of your work!!

  4. Sounds like a lot of work, but worth it! I am sure that you will be more prepared next time, now that you are all filled in. I see a lot of "mommy to mommy" sales around my area, I wonder if it is the same concept?

  5. I need to do something like this! I am almost ashamed of the abundance of baby clothes I have sitting around in boxes. What can I say? I love a good sale ;-)
