Oliver - 18 Month Update

So yeah, remember that time I went to bed with a one year old and suddenly woke up with a one and a half year old??  How have these last six months gone so fast?  18 months old today, we're halfway to TWO.  Lord help us all.  But seriously, I am loving this age, so SO much.  I realize I say that with each of these updates though! Anyway, here's what we're looking at with our 18 month old these days!

Height and weight - we have him at somewhere around 32 inches tall we think.  We're thinking he's still around 27ish pounds or so.  And he seems to have arms that are longer than the rest of his body. I kid, but my gosh.  He's reaching the tops of tables and even counters that I know he couldn't just a month ago!  His feet are growing fast too, I know now why parents complain about how often their kids need new shoes!

Sizes - Seems to be doing well in size five diapers, 24 month-2T clothing and size 7 shoes.  My hope is we can get through the summer without that changing much!

Nicknames - Ollie, Ollie Boy, Munchkin, Monkey, Goofball, Boy, Pumpkin, Sir, Kiddo, Kidlet

Sleep - Oh hey, guess who sleeps through the night?  Finally!  He actually has been doing so for the last few months here, shortly after his 15 month update he finally made it.  We transitioned him from two naps to one nap around the middle of March and that has worked pretty well for us.  He takes a good long afternoon nap and gets around 11 hours of sleep at night.  I'm just so thankful it has finally clicked for him that sleeping is nice, ha.  Sure, he wakes up if his mouth hurts or he has a bad dream, but a quick rocking session gets him back down and those nights don't come often.

Eating - He's getting a little pickier, which we were told to expect at some point.  He still loves meat, but sometimes resists chicken.  He is really learning to love fruit.  He's still a carb-o-holic, give him all the bread.  He's not his mama's son in that he doesn't seem to really like cheese that much.  He loves his almond milk.  I posted about this awhile ago now that he is fully weaned from nursing.  I miss it a little bit sometimes, but for the most part I love the ease of just handing him a sippy cup of milk and letting him do his own thing!

Vocabulary - Holy cats this kid can talk.  We aren't even sure all of the words he knows at this point. He can string together pretty simple sentences, for example he'll bring me a book and say "Mama read."  Or he'll say "water want".  He's trying super hard on multiple syllable words like "triangle" - it's pretty garbled, but you can tell what he's trying to say.  He's getting good at identifying body parts like nose and eyes.  He can repeat animal sounds if you ask him what the sheep says, etc.  He still struggles with "Gs", so garage still comes out mostly "ahge." I think his favorite word is "outside". It's so fun listening to him.  My favorite is still "I yove you"

Loves - Outside.  So much.  The rainy days are a struggle, let me tell you.  He loves bouncy balls, swinging in the swing and going down the slide at the park.  He loves his stuffed elephant (which he calls "enphant") and his blankie.  He still loves Elmo and Abby from Sesame Street, he loves Mickey Mouse and Daniel Tiger.  He still loves puppies pretty hardcore, but he loves his kitties too, even if he calls both of them "Pippin."  He's getting into cars and trucks.  He loves to be read to, he'll pick a book and say "read" and he'll often ask for the same book more than once.  Right now his favorites are Farmer Dale's Red Pickup Truck, Train, The Very Hungry Caterpillar (which he hated as a newborn, too funny) and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See.  He loves water, whether it's a water table, a swimming pool or a bath.  Kid just loves water.  And he loves to run, bounce on the bed and dance.

Mood - We're seeing some of that toddler tantrum behavior here and there when he doesn't get his way, but we're working on it.  He is working on his eye teeth now and some days he really seems sore and unhappy, but we find we can distract him more now than we could when he was younger.  He is definitely grumpy if we get too many days where he can't be outside much.  Other than that, he's a very happy little boy, he giggles pretty much all the time and he is just getting such a personality. We have a lot of fun!

So there you have it!  It just blows my mind that by the time this summer is over we'll be just that much closer to having a two year old in the house.  We're already talking and looking ahead (though not rushing) about bed transitions and potty training, but I'm not in a hurry for any of that quite yet! He may be more boy than baby, but he's still a little guy and we'll take things one step at a time!
