What's in my Bag

I haven't done a post like this in ages and for lack of better ideas today, thought it would be fun to share what is currently in my bag.  I carry a separate baby bag for Oliver, I haven't been able to fully give up carrying a purse!   I don't even think I carry all that much with me, but it's enough that I need my stuff separate from his.  So first up, here is the bag I'm currently carrying:

I adore this Target satchel - I picked it up on a sale the week before Oliver was born as a birthday gift to myself.  It even came to the hospital with me when he was born!  I kept carrying it off and on throughout the winter but put it away for the summer.  Now that we're having some fall like weather I decided to pull it out again since it is a nice color for fall!

It has an insane amount of pockets, but I keep the majority of my things inside the main compartment.

Right now I'm using this awesome Fossil wallet I scored at the consignment store awhile back.  I love this owl coin purse my good friend Angie sent me as a thank you for supporting her Thirty-One business.  I hate having loose change in my purse, so I've loved being able to throw coins in my little owl!  I also love this Fox pouch that Nate got me for Christmas last year.  Two of my favorite animals, foxes and birds, you can't beat that!

The fox pouch doesn't have room for much, but it is a great place to keep some nail clippers, lip gloss and a compact.  I like using it for these items because it keeps them from getting lost in my bag and then it also makes it easier when I change bags (which I do frequently) to just grab the pouch and throw it in a new bag.

Kleenexes are a must - whether you are a mom or not, it's so handy having Kleenex!  I got this pack from my last Influenster box, I don't normally like the tissues with lotion, but I'm making it work.  I am prone to allergies in the fall so I'm sure I'll get use out of these soon.  I'm also very old school in that I still like keeping track of appointments, dates, etc in a calendar instead of using my iPhone, so I carry a calendar everywhere I go.  And yes, that is a deck of playing cards.  We've used them less since Oliver has been with us, but Nate and I have been known to play a little rummy when we're at a restaurant or bar waiting for our food or enjoying a pint!  So I started carrying cards everywhere I go in case we want them and I've just never stopped.

Gotta have my car keys, I can't really live without those.  Often times when it's jacket season they end up in my coat pocket instead of my bag though.  I always have a pair of sunglasses with me.  Looking outside today I don't think they'll be getting any use, so back in the bag they'll go.  And then I try to always have a pen with me, sometimes more than one, you just never know when you might need one!

Finally, even though I have extreme short hair, I carry a comb.  I will use it if I think my hair got windblown or something.  I also carry around this little case for business cards, while I don't really have my own for my job, I keep cards I've received from others in here.  And the last item is a knife.  Yes, I'm dangerous.  I'm a ninja.  Not really.  Nate always carries one too and this one is very safe and easy to use, it's not for self defense, it's really more for things like, needing to open a box or something of that nature or for safety reasons - say I'm needing to cut some rope or something when I'm stranded on the side of the road?  So there you go. When Oliver is older and starts digging through my bag I will likely move this to the glove box of my car for a little while!

So that's what I currently carry in my bag!  Not pictured of course would be my iPhone - I used that to take the pictures.  Also there are usually various items like receipts and check stubs in my bag as well. Sometimes bills to be mailed.  Occasionally a small toy of Ollie's makes it way into my purse if I didn't sneak it into his diaper bag.  But for the most part the items pictured are my can't live without items!  What's in your bag?

  1. This is why I love that every mom is different! You keep yours and Ollie's stuff separate, meaning two bags -- one for you and one for him. I definitely see the appeal for this (especially with you being back at work), but I'm all about consolidating! My mother-in-law gave me a Lug bag a few years ago for Christmas that was just "so not me" at the time, but I kept around thinking "this will work some day". It's great for travelling (it's got a lot of storage for all the stuff you carry when you play tourist, without looking too touristy), and now it's totally going to be the Cara & Baby bag possibly because it pairs great with Toms, tights and casual tunics and I'm fairly certain that will be my mom uniform! Of course, we'll see how much room baby takes up once we get to that stage!
