Thrift Style Thursday - Anchors Away

We're setting sail for this week's Thrift Style Thursday and going nautical! This theme comes to us from Brittany of The B Life.  I originally thought I'd be going more for a dress or for my sailboat top, but then decided a casual low key approach was more what "floated my boat" today - oh puns!

I thrifted this shirt back this spring and I'm actually surprised at how much use I've gotten out of it so far.  I kind of bought it figuring I'd wear it on the 4th of July because it feels a bit patriotic, but I've actually worn it several other times as well.  I thought the stripes felt nautical in addition to patriotic, so I thought it would work well today, especially after I paired it with my white jeans.  It gets chilly on boat rides sometimes, so I likely would wear something like this if I actually was going boating!

Shirt - Gap (thrifted), Jeans - Mossimo (Target)
Necklace - Lia Sophia, Shoes - consignment

No boat rides in the near future, after Oliver's disastrous first boat ride in Itasca I haven't really felt the desire to try it again anytime soon.  Maybe a date night with Nate though, you never know!

Be sure to check out the other Thrift Style Thursday gals to see what nautical notions they pulled together and don't forget new member Alison.

Thrift Style Thursday - Sunshine On My Shoulder

Today's Thrift Style Thursday theme was chosen by yours truly - inspired by the official Summer Solstice last weekend I chose a theme of "Sunshine" - any sunny, bright look that channels summer days! I originally thought I'd go for more of an orange hued look for today, but then I saw this shirt in my drawer and I was like, oh this is the one.  If there was every a sunnier feeling shirt, I wouldn't know!

Also today is one of those awesome days where the stars aligned and every item I'm wearing was either thrifted or gifted!  My wardrobe is more and more thrifted things these days, but it's still not often that every last thing I'm wearing is completely thrifted! Well ok, my Fitbit was clearly not thrifted, but it's also not all that fashionable, so we won't count that!

Shirt - Gap (thrifted), Skirt - Merona (garage sale)
Shoes - via Instagram shop, Bag - Stella and Dot (from friend)
Necklace - Mode (free from event)

I just love how all of this came together today, it just might be my favorite Thrift Style Thursday look of late!  I might be biased because it was my theme though!  But seriously, the yellows and gold are just all playing so nice together.  I was even going to carry my favorite Stitch Fix bag (which wouldn't have been thrifted) to bring in some orange tones, but my favorite Stella and Dot bag tends to look either gold or silver and today it looks more gold and I think matches pretty well!

But someone else at our house decided to participate and wear some orange today, so I decided to take his picture too! #ToddlerStyle

And guess what?  His whole outfit is thrifted too.  This entire outfit came from Once Upon a Child, courtesy of Grandma.  He's still quite the ham when the camera comes out, he knows how to say "Cheese" now.  Love my cutie.

Both of my look and Ollie's look just make me smile and feel happy and that's what I think today's theme should be all about!  Be sure to check out the other thrifty ladies at their blogs listed below and also check out the Thrift Style Thursday Facebook page to see looks from some of our newer members too!

Thrift Style Thursday - Trending

This week for Thrift Style Thursday, Martyna of Spoolish challenged us to create a look that rivals those on the runway and thrift something that is trending this spring.  Well, let me tell you, I had to do some research because I'm not up on the current trends as much as I pretend to be.  I even bought actual magazines you guys, this is a big deal, I never do that anymore!  In this month's issue of Redbook, there were some outfits put together with just a few key pieces in your closet, one being floral with stripes.  And then in this month's issue of Lucky, there was an article about a basic red/navy striped t-shirt being a good item to have in your closet.  I saw this shirt at the Goodwill and decided to start my "trendy" outfit with this t-shirt as the base.

I pulled out one of my oldest maxi dresses at this point and decided the "stripes with floral" would be how I would style this for today.  The magazines also both talked about floral scarves still being popular this year, so I added that.  I also noticed that metallics are still in fashion, so I added my favorite Stella and Dot bag.

And then both magazines also talked about denim at length - so I decided since it was chilly this morning I would add a denim jacket as well.

Jacket - Old Navy (thrifted), T-shirt - Gap (thrifted)
Dress - Cliche Mpls, Bag - Stella and Dot
Scarf - garage sale

So there you have it.  I don't know if I'm "runway chic" with this look or not, but apparently these are things that all the cool kids will be wearing this spring and thanks to Echosmith, I want to be like the cool kids, cause all the cool kids seem to get it.
