Thrift Style Thursday - Trending

This week for Thrift Style Thursday, Martyna of Spoolish challenged us to create a look that rivals those on the runway and thrift something that is trending this spring.  Well, let me tell you, I had to do some research because I'm not up on the current trends as much as I pretend to be.  I even bought actual magazines you guys, this is a big deal, I never do that anymore!  In this month's issue of Redbook, there were some outfits put together with just a few key pieces in your closet, one being floral with stripes.  And then in this month's issue of Lucky, there was an article about a basic red/navy striped t-shirt being a good item to have in your closet.  I saw this shirt at the Goodwill and decided to start my "trendy" outfit with this t-shirt as the base.

I pulled out one of my oldest maxi dresses at this point and decided the "stripes with floral" would be how I would style this for today.  The magazines also both talked about floral scarves still being popular this year, so I added that.  I also noticed that metallics are still in fashion, so I added my favorite Stella and Dot bag.

And then both magazines also talked about denim at length - so I decided since it was chilly this morning I would add a denim jacket as well.

Jacket - Old Navy (thrifted), T-shirt - Gap (thrifted)
Dress - Cliche Mpls, Bag - Stella and Dot
Scarf - garage sale

So there you have it.  I don't know if I'm "runway chic" with this look or not, but apparently these are things that all the cool kids will be wearing this spring and thanks to Echosmith, I want to be like the cool kids, cause all the cool kids seem to get it.

Thrift Style Thursday - Bloom Where You Are Planted

Welcome to another installment of Thrift Style Thursday!  This week's theme was chosen by Brittany of The B Life, it's all about florals.  Florals and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship.  I'm pretty girly in that I do like feminine things, but sometimes with floral I feel the patterns can be too bold for me at times - but I like a nice subtle floral pattern and I really love mixing it with another pattern, such as stripes.

Today I went with a floral blouse I thrifted last year.  It might be it's last wear though, it's rather large on me at this point (first world problems I know).  It's too bad, I actually really like the pattern, not only does it have floral, it has tiny polka dots on it too.  And I love the colors!

Today I am also proud to say that every item I'm wearing is either thrifted or gifted.  For as many thrifted items as I own, that doesn't always happen, so it's kind of exciting when it does!

Floral blouse - Maurices (thrifted), Sweater - Merona (thrifted)
Skirt - Unknown (thrifted), Necklace - via giveaway
Shoes - Xhiliaration (from friend)

We had some rain last week that has helped the grass start to green up a bit and their are buds on the trees - I'm sure actual flowers won't be too much longer!  I can't wait for it to be as colorful outside as is reflected in my outfit today!

Fall Floral

I liked my outfit today so I decided to share it.  It's a loosely based interpretation of today's Pinned It Spinned It on Instagram.  Ok it's a VERY loosely based interpretation.  So I really spinned the Pin I guess!

I love this adorable jacket.  My awesome mom (hi mom!) saw this at Kohl's this weekend and thought it would be something I'd like so she picked it up for me.  And she was right, I love it!  It's perfect for early fall days, it's not super heavy, but still warm enough for a cool day.  I love all the colors in it, my photos here do not do it justice.  I know I'll get a lot of use of it for sure!

Jacket - About A Girl (Kohl's), Cami - Zulily
Pants - Old Navy, Shoes - Merona (Target)

I haven't really set foot in a mall in months due to my shopping ban, but according to my mom I am not missing much.  She went looking for colored pants at both Macy's and JCPenney this weekend and was quite disappointed in the selections and how picked over both stores seemed.  So, I guess right now, Kohl's is where it's at for fall goods!
