Thrift Style Thursday - Sunshine On My Shoulder

Today's Thrift Style Thursday theme was chosen by yours truly - inspired by the official Summer Solstice last weekend I chose a theme of "Sunshine" - any sunny, bright look that channels summer days! I originally thought I'd go for more of an orange hued look for today, but then I saw this shirt in my drawer and I was like, oh this is the one.  If there was every a sunnier feeling shirt, I wouldn't know!

Also today is one of those awesome days where the stars aligned and every item I'm wearing was either thrifted or gifted!  My wardrobe is more and more thrifted things these days, but it's still not often that every last thing I'm wearing is completely thrifted! Well ok, my Fitbit was clearly not thrifted, but it's also not all that fashionable, so we won't count that!

Shirt - Gap (thrifted), Skirt - Merona (garage sale)
Shoes - via Instagram shop, Bag - Stella and Dot (from friend)
Necklace - Mode (free from event)

I just love how all of this came together today, it just might be my favorite Thrift Style Thursday look of late!  I might be biased because it was my theme though!  But seriously, the yellows and gold are just all playing so nice together.  I was even going to carry my favorite Stitch Fix bag (which wouldn't have been thrifted) to bring in some orange tones, but my favorite Stella and Dot bag tends to look either gold or silver and today it looks more gold and I think matches pretty well!

But someone else at our house decided to participate and wear some orange today, so I decided to take his picture too! #ToddlerStyle

And guess what?  His whole outfit is thrifted too.  This entire outfit came from Once Upon a Child, courtesy of Grandma.  He's still quite the ham when the camera comes out, he knows how to say "Cheese" now.  Love my cutie.

Both of my look and Ollie's look just make me smile and feel happy and that's what I think today's theme should be all about!  Be sure to check out the other thrifty ladies at their blogs listed below and also check out the Thrift Style Thursday Facebook page to see looks from some of our newer members too!

Thrift Style Thursday - Gingham Style

For this week's edition of Thrift Style Thursday, Carissa from Carissa Knits suggested "Oppum Gingham Style" (did we forget about the song Gangam Style yet?  did I get it stuck in your head? You're welcome!).  I love gingham, it's one of my favorite patterns because it's so close to plaid.  I do not have that many thrifted gingham things however.  I picked the one shirt I have that is thrifted - and of course it didn't photograph well, but I promise it's gingham!

I thought it would be fun to tie it over this maxi dress I snatched up at the Blogger Garage sale last weekend.  I'm starting to really like the combination of gray and yellow, it seems to work well together.  I feel like some bright yellow is needed today.  Another gray, rainy day here in Minnesota!

Gingham shirt - Old Navy (thrifted), Dress - Old Navy (garage sale)
Sandals - Target, Necklace - Charming Charlie

For fun, I pulled up another picture in a Throwback Thursday move - I have another thrifted gingham shirt I love, but it wouldn't be warm enough to wear it today, so I found an old blog post with it instead and pulled the picture up here.  This cute shirt is perfect in the summer, I got it at a vintage pop up sale a couple of years ago.  I am looking forward to warm days to wear this shirt soon!

What do you think of the gingham trend?  And be sure to check out how the other Thrift Style Thursday gals are rocking their gingham at their blogs listed below!

The argyle sweater

These are some of my first pictures from the office - it's a little weird getting dressed for work again!  I wore a similar version of this outfit last spring - seen here - during the Pantone color challenge week.  And funny story, when I wore it, I knew I was pregnant, but I hadn't told anyone yet besides Mr. Monkey!

I love argyle, so I love the pattern on this sweater and it's nice and bright which helps on a dreary winter day. And cardigans and nursing camis are kind of my best friend these days.  It really makes things easier for nursing and pumping!

Sweater - Talbots, thrifted
Cami - Motherhood Maternity
Pants - Express, consignment
Shoes - Etienne Aiger, consignment

Speaking of argyle sweaters - that is one of my favorite comic strips, The Argyle Sweater.  I have a "cartoon of the day" calendar on my desk that is The Argyle Sweater and I love it.  It makes me laugh.  I've been known to keep my favorites and pin them on my bulletin board at work.  You have to make your workplace fun right?

Inspiration Monday - Shameless

Well here we are and it's Monday again!  Did you all have good weekends? I did even if the weather wasn't perfect, I chose to bake cupcakes.  Lemons out of lemonade right?  Anyway, I'm back with two birds for Inspiration Monday and I love the actress they chose this week - Emmy Rossum.  She stars in one of my most favorite shows, Shameless.  If you have never seen this show, go Netflix or rent the season DVDs - it is kind of offensive at times, OK it's offensive all of the time, but it is also really well done and one of the better shows I've seen in recent years, the acting is awesome.  And Emmy is also a classically trained singer - she has a lovely voice and was in Phantom of the Opera.

So here is my take on her super springy outfit.  The sun is shining today - hooray - but it's still not terribly warm, so I added nylons.  Just can't do bare legs and sandals yet!

And again, since it's cold and has been cold in my office lately too, I decided to add a blazer.  I think it works and still keeps the spring like nature of the outfit - it's a yellow skirt, how can it not be somewhat springy?
 Shirt - Antlita Femme, thrifted
Blazer - F21
Skirt - Shabby Apple via giveawa
Shoes - DSW
Necklace and earrings - Camy Couture

I hear there is a chance we may actually get real live spring here in MN by this weekend which would be nice, we have a wedding to go to.  Before that can happen though, there is supposed to be some more slushy snow tonight.  Seriously.  I'm going to ignore that forecast and enjoy the fact that right at this very moment, there is sun.

Head on over to two birds and check out the other Inspiration Monday outfits!
