Inspiration Monday - Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows

You guys.  I had the best weekend.  It was so awesome between seeing family and friends at Oktoberfest and also yesterday taking a day with my Pants Monkey to be lazy and recover.  It was just an awesome weekend. It's tough "coming down from the mountain" so to speak, so it helps that I have a couple of fun blog things today!  First up, it's Inspiration Monday with the beautiful Pippa Middleton.  Now I think Princess Kate is gorgeous, but I think her sister is even more beautiful if that's possible.

So here's my take on the outfit.  I don't have an awesome moto jacket, or even a bright colored dress, but I think my subdued approach works ok for this inspiration.  I was cold this morning too, so I also added tights.

Dress - VS, gift from P. Monkey
Tank under dress - Maurices
Jacket - Positive Attitude handed down from cousin
Necklace - DIY by me
Shoes - Etienne Aigner, thrifted

My other fun blog thing today is the wonderful Vivienne of Thrifted Shift has gifted me a Sunshine award - given to bloggers who give you joy.  How very sweet of you Vivienne!  You give me joy as well!  As usual with these fun blog tags, we are given questions to answer to learn more about each other and I can't resist a good set of questions!  So I will answer those for the rest of this post!

1. How often do you get new items and get rid of old ones?  I would say I go out to the thrift/consignment shops a couple of times a month to get things that are "new to me".  As far as brand new, maybe once a month.  My rule is when one thing comes in the door something else has to go out, so I'm turning things over pretty frequently in my closet.
2. Do you wear shoes that hurt?  Ha!  I did have a pair my cousin handed down to me that I absolutely loved, they were so adorable - but they hurt like a son of a you know what.  I gave up, it just wasn't worth it.  More often I tend to wear shoes that are tad too big for me and I slide around all day long!
3. What are your shopping rules?  Rules are for wimps.  No, I'm kidding.  My rule is pretty much it has to be a versatile piece that will work with multiple items in my closet.  If I don't think I'm going to wear it more than once then it feels like it's not worth bringing it home with me. That's about it though.  I try hard to stick to a budget too.
4. Do you keep clothes that don't fit for sentimental value? I used to do that - I had kept the outfit I was wearing when the Pants Monkey and I got engaged for way too long - it wasn't even a fancy outfit, a sweatshirt and jeans, but I had a hard time giving up the sweatshirt even though it had shrank and was no longer comfortable.  I finally did give it up a couple of years ago.
5. Name three things that you think will be obsolete in ten years.  Wow this is a very interesting thought, but having grown up in the dawn of the digital age, I've already seen things go by the wayside (CD's, cassettes, heck even records).  I think sadly newspapers and print media are a dying breed and that does make me sad because my dad works in the printing industry.  I think the telephone "land line" will probably be obsolete soon.  And I hope in ten years we're closer to making things like cancer or AIDS obsolete.
6. Would you rather be rich or famous? Um, neither.  I guess if I had to pick I'd say famous and just not use my fame for the wrong reasons.  I would want to help those in need.
7. What's your favorite way to celebrate?  Out a nice restaurant with my Pants Monkey, good food and a good glass of wine or beer in hand!
8. What are you thankful for today?  My amazing weekend, our wonderful friends and family who came out to support our homebrew hobby and drink our beer at Oktoberfest.  And this blogging community and all the wonderful friends I've made here!
9. What can you always be found with? I'm pretty much attached at the hip with my iPhone.
10. So you win a pet monkey at a fair, but this isn't just any old monkey.  It can do one trick for you whenever you want...from getting a beverage out of the fridge to washing your hair.  What would be the trick?  Make me coffee first thing in the morning and bring it to me in bed!!

Whew!  Those questions certainly made me think!  Love it!  And I'd like to tag some bloggers who regularly bring me joy as well!

Ally at Shybiker
Megan of Megan Mae Daily
Sheila from Ephemera
Sylvia from Sylvia Loves Pink
Amanda from Salvaged Strawberry
Heather and Kayla from H&K Style Journey

I'd like to note that there are several others on Vivienne's list who also bring me joy (looking at you Two Birds, Kezzie, Feathers and Freckles) but I didn't want to double tag! And really, all of you who take the time to stop by and say hello make me smile too - so feel free to play along even if I didn't tag you.  We could be here all day if I tagged everyone!

And my questions for you all are:
1. You are stranded on a deserted island with only five songs on your iPod - what five songs are you going to listen to on repeat?
2. Have you heard of that show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate?"  What would you say if you were on that show?
3. Where is your favorite place to shop for shoes?
4. Is there a fictional character (say on television) whose style you admire?
5. Would you rather be a pirate or a ninja?
6. Have you jumped on board with the Kindle/Nook craze or do you still like a book in your hands?  Or maybe you do both?
7. What is your favorite magazine, if you have one?
8. Do you wear sunscreen every day like they recommend we all should?
9. What is the worst movie you've ever seen?
10. Do you have a favorite type of cookie?  What is it?  Will you bake me some?

Phew.  I think that is enough for today!!  Please make sure to head over to two birds to check out the other Inspiration Monday outfits!  And have a great Monday!!

Inspiration Monday - They were all yellow

Good morning friends!  Welcome to Monday.  It was another good weekend gone by too fast.  I was able to spend time with family, a couple of college friends and went on a thrift date with Lori, not to mention I was able to spend some nice time with my Pants Monkey too.  Aren't those the best kind of weekends?  Anyway, it is Monday and here is today's Inspiration Monday choice - Olivia Palmero.

And here is my interpretation.  It's funny, I wasn't going to wear this yellow skirt and had even considered being done with this yellow skirt for the season, but after watching the Emmy's last night and seeing Julianne Moore's bright yellow dress I decided to go for it, especially when it's going to be warmer this afternoon.

Speaking of the Emmy's, I only got to watch the last hour or so, but from what I saw, did it seem like they were rushing to anyone else?  No, I don't want the winners to be allowed to drone on and on forever, but it just seemed like they were cutting them off super fast this year.  And I also felt like the presenters were speed reading the nominees too.  I don't know, I am all for keeping it to three hours but come on. Oh well.

I was happy to see Modern Family win again as we just started watching it this summer and it's comedy gold.  But, I would have liked to have seen the love spread around a bit too - I love me some Big Bang Theory too and think it's time for the nerds to have their day.  I've never watched Homeland - I honestly thought Breaking Bad would win, but they've also won a lot in the past too (for good reason - very intense but well done show), so maybe it's time for another show to shine in that category too.  And I'm sorry - best comedy actor - Jon Cryer, really?  Sorry to any fans, but that show is soooo past it's prime.

Back to my outfit, I do wish this yellow skirt was a little more on the mustard side - I think that might be a color I'll be looking for either in pants or a skirt to take me into winter a bit more.  But for today, this bright yellow guy works!

It's all happening

Happy Friday friends!  Exciting things going on in Beth world today!  First of all, you may have seen on my Twitter or FB yesterday that I have a new blog URL!  You can still use the old Blogger URL and your bookmarks will still work, but if you want very simple access to my blog, you can now just type www.bethietheboo.com and you will be here!  Many thanks to the Pants Monkey for not only buying me my domain, but for helping to set it up!!  It makes me smile to see that up in the address line!

The second exciting thing going on is my fun new top from Forever 21.  It is the epitome of cute - ruffles, polka dots and bows?  Yes please!!  I paired it with this jean skirt since it's going to be 90 today - yikes!!

The third exciting thing is the sweet Kezzie of KezzieAG gave me this lovely award!

Kezzie is such a sweetheart, one of my favorite blogs from across the pond in England.  I often wish there wasn't a huge ocean between us so we could get together and hang out because I think her and I would have lots of fun together!  Anyway, the rules state that you are to nominate 15 blogs you love and share 7 facts about yourself.  Truthfully I love too many of you to nominate 15 of you, not to mention Kezzie already gifted this award to a couple of my favorites anyway.  So, I'm cheating and saying that all of you who take the time to come here and read my blog each day and leave comments and share in my life deserve this award!  I am going to share my 7 Random Facts and you should all feel free to play along and share 7 about you too!

1. I am an only child.  It was a chore for my parents to actually get pregnant with me, so once they had me they decided to not try for any others.  I am extremely close to my parents for that reason and actually work only five minutes from their house, so I have lunch with my mom every day.  She is my best friend.

2. I drink plain coffee most of the week and not that much of it - but enough that I do need it. My weekly treat is Saturday mornings (occasionally Sundays) going to Caribou Coffee (MN version of Starbucks) and getting a vanilla latte.  If it's hot out, like it will be this weekend, I get it iced.  So yummy.

3. I like odd smells - I love the smell of gasoline, permanent markers, oil, my dad's printing shop, all those toxins that are soooo horrible for you and the environment.  Yep, I'm weird!

4. I played the flute for nine years but sadly do not anymore.  I wish I had time for it, I miss it.  I have been singing for 22 years.  Music = life in my world.

5. I haven't flown anywhere since before 9/11.  It isn't because of 9/11, I just haven't had an opportunity to do so.  But, the idea flying scares the snot out of me, it always has and now it's just that much worse.  I have become quite afraid of heights in general in my "old" age.  We went up in the Arch in St. Louis last summer - I couldn't handle it.

6. My favorite animal is a penguin.  Bet you thought I was going to say cat.  Of course I love cats and I love my cats, but if I could actually have a pet penguin?  Oh man, that would be awesome.  Instead I settle for cats who look like penguins.  Tuxedo cats for the win.

7. I have never broken a bone, required stitches/surgery/hospital stays other than wisdom teeth or been stung by a bee in my 30 years so far.  The older I get the more I fear the first time one of these things happening, but I don't dwell on it!

Woo, that's a lot of stuff!  I hope that you perhaps learned something new about me!  Many thanks once again to Miss Kezzie for the award!  Thanks to all of you for reading and I hope you have wonderful weekends!
