Currently in March

Time once again for a Currently post!  Is it just me or did February go by really fast?  I know it's a short month, but wow.  Oh well, we're into March, Spring is on the horizon and here are some things I'm currently up to!

--Currently I am--

Dreaming - About summer and the fun things I hope we'll be able to do this year.  Also dreaming about a warm getaway, possibly next winter in advance of our ten year wedding anniversary.  We're starting to look at this possibility anyway!

Planning - Nate and I have started having some sit downs aside from our date nights to start planning for our future a bit - mostly in financial terms.  We're comfortable, we're fine, but we aren't doing a great job of looking at the big picture, so while it isn't the most fun, we've been starting to figure out our goals for the next five, ten and even twenty years so we know what we need to get in place to continue to have a comfortable financial situation and to ensure that Oliver will have one as well. And actually, I've enjoyed our talks so far, it hasn't been all doom and gloom!

Making - I'm excited to be starting a scrapbook of Oliver's first year!  A talented friend of mine who is very good at scrapbooking is going to help me.  We've already bought a bunch of the supplies and tonight we're going to start actually putting some of it together!  I know it will take some time, but I'm excited to have a keepsake of memories and to actually do something with a bunch of the pictures we have instead of them just living on the computer for all eternity.

Baking - Sadly, nothing!  I don't know why either, I have actually been in a baking mood.  I guess one reason is Nate's not eating as many sweets lately and I think the other reason is I only have time to bake on weekends and ours have been pretty full up of stuff lately!

Watching - We started the Breaking Bad spin off Better Call Saul and it is so good!  I was a little worried it would just be Breaking Bad Jr., but they've done a great job of keeping the essence of what made that show so good while creating it's own story.  Also in rotation right now is Shameless, Covert Affairs, Portlandia, Modern Family and we are dragging out the last few episodes of Parks and Recreation for as long as we can, don't want that to end!

And that's what's up this month!  Not the most exciting update ever, but it's still winter, so what can I say?  Make sure to visit Anne of In Residence and Jenna of Dearest Love for other Currently posts!

Signs I'm Getting Older

This week's prompt for the writing exercise I'm doing with the Let Your Blog Shine group is "Signs I'm Getting Older."  The concept of getting older isn't something a lot of people like to talk about all that much, but I'm not going real deep here, I'll keep it kind of light in fact.

Basically, this clip from the TV show Friends can kind of sum up my thoughts a little bit.

In this clip, the guys are basically lamenting about the fact that they can no longer party like they did in their 20's now that they are almost 30.  I can relate to more than one thing in this clip sadly!

When they order drinks, Joey and Ross ask for decaf coffee because they don't want to be up all night.  That's pretty much where I'm at.  I can have tea into the afternoon, but no coffee after 12 pm for this lady!

Chandler orders some warm water with lemon because he strained his voice at the last club they were at because the music was so loud.  Nate and I were recently at a taproom that had some live music, which was awesome, but it was so loud we could barely hear ourselves think and my throat was definitely feeling it later!

The guys end up saying "How sad are we?" but then realize there isn't anything wrong with not being 21 anymore.  Chandler says sometimes he likes to watch some TV and go to bed at a reasonable hour. He pretty much just described every night at our house!

Joey says he likes to go to a nice quiet restaurant and have a conversation with his friends.  I still love going out with friends, but I agree, I like going somewhere that you can have a conversation and a beer without coming home with a headache!  Staying in and playing games can be fun too.

And then they make fun of him for this, but Ross says "so what if I like to go home, throw on some Kenny G and take a bath?"  Well, maybe not the Kenny G, but I sure do love taking a nice relaxing bath!

So I guess where I'm going with my silliness here is that, I recognize that I'm not 21 anymore.  That doesn't mean that I can't still have fun every now and then, but like the guys in the show, I agree, it's not sad, it's just where I'm at and I'm ok with that!  Maybe it does make me sound like an old lady, but I guess I'd rather embrace it than be down about it!

I do have to say this on a quick side note though - the fact that Friends is now on Nick At Nite makes me feel older than anything else I just mentioned above!!

How do you feel about your age?  Do you see signs you're getting older too?

Inspiration Monday on a Tuesday

Since I didn't have an idea for an outfit for the Pinned It Spinned It challenge for today, I thought I'd swing back and hit up the Inspiration Monday look for the week from two birds instead!  I saw this cute striped dress from January Jones and knew I had several options in my closet that would work!

I just love black and white stripes.  I realized this weekend I have a few striped items!  Anyway, I pulled together kind of a double stripe thing with a dress and a jacket - and leggings because while it's warming up here in MN, it's chilly in the mornings some days!  It's a good thing I did too, my office was an ice box when I got to work today!  I also am wearing a pair of the shoes I got from my cousin.

Jacket - F21, two birds garage sale
Dress - swap
Leggings - Simply Vera, Kohls
Shoes - Michael Kors, from cousin
Necklace - gift from friend

Seeing January Jones up there reminds that Mad Men is starting up again.  We're a few seasons behind, but have found that Amazon streaming has some of the seasons we need to catch up on, so I think we'll be doing that soon since one of our other shows (Shameless) just finished it's season.  I love Amazon streaming, it really helps with binge watching tv shows and you can stop and pause and restart if you need to which we've done a couple of nights if Ollie wakes up and needs us.  It's worth my Prime membership, I'll say that much!

Girly fun and TV stuff

So I mentioned yesterday that over the weekend I had a girls night with my blogging buddies Lori and Cambria.  We had a good old girlie time complete with snacking, chatting, makeovers and an insane YouTube marathon.  The fantastic Lori was kind enough to do my makeup - the iPhone picture isn't of the greatest quality, but I thought she did a pretty fantastic job.  She's going to go makeup shopping with me in the near future and give me good suggestions to improve my skills!

Anyway, I always have a blast with these gals  - there is always a ton of laughter.  They just make me smile so much - I'm so thankful that we were introduced via blogging and now I consider them more than just blog friends, they're friends.  Period.  Check out Lori's recap over here as well - better pictures of my makeover! Thanks again Lori and Cambria for a fun night and for just being awesome!

Alas that was Saturday and we're well into the week now.  It's Tuesday and I get to take my glucose screening test today.  Joy of joys.  I'm not nervous about it, it's more a hassle than anything else.  At least I have a couple of good books to read while I'm waiting for an hour!

I'm excited because the Fall TV season is slowly starting up this week.  I can't wait for new New Girl episodes! I'm also excited about the Emmys this weekend.  I'm such an award show nerd.

Some of our other favorite shows from this summer are starting to wrap up - a couple of them for good.  I have been disappointed in Dexter, so I'm not sad about that one.  But Breaking Bad.  OMG.  I cannot breathe after this week's episode.  I swear that show gets more stressful by the week.  And yet, I'm going to kind of miss it!  It's just so well done.  Uffda.  Any shows you are excited about?  Any new ones you plan to check out?

But I play one on TV...

Welcome to Dress Like a TV Character day on my blog.  I'm kind of kidding - but my outfit is entirely inspired by Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation.  I always try to plan my outfit the night before, even if I don't lay it out, I kind of mentally plan what I'm going to wear.  Last night my brain was fried and I was feeling uninspired, but we were watching Parks and Rec and my outfit was suddenly in my head.

 Denim shirt - Talbots, thrifted
Blazer - Merona, Target (old)
Scarf - Stella and Dot
Pants - Old Navy, thrifted
Shoes - Etienne Aigner, thrifted

We only just started watching the show this summer.  There was an Inspiration Monday featuring Aubrey Plaza, who plays April on the show and I had no idea who she was at the time, and then many of you said, oh she's on Parks and Recreation, that show is hilarious!  So I told the Pants Monkey that we were missing out on one of the funniest shows on television and we've slowly started making our way through it.  No spoilers please, we're only on season three, but I love the show.

Many of you requested pictures from the "White Trash" Christmas party.  I didn't take any, but I do have one that a friend took - it's not the best, but you can see a little of our outfits.  Many others at the party went much further than we did!

Inspiration Monday - They were all yellow

Good morning friends!  Welcome to Monday.  It was another good weekend gone by too fast.  I was able to spend time with family, a couple of college friends and went on a thrift date with Lori, not to mention I was able to spend some nice time with my Pants Monkey too.  Aren't those the best kind of weekends?  Anyway, it is Monday and here is today's Inspiration Monday choice - Olivia Palmero.

And here is my interpretation.  It's funny, I wasn't going to wear this yellow skirt and had even considered being done with this yellow skirt for the season, but after watching the Emmy's last night and seeing Julianne Moore's bright yellow dress I decided to go for it, especially when it's going to be warmer this afternoon.

Speaking of the Emmy's, I only got to watch the last hour or so, but from what I saw, did it seem like they were rushing to anyone else?  No, I don't want the winners to be allowed to drone on and on forever, but it just seemed like they were cutting them off super fast this year.  And I also felt like the presenters were speed reading the nominees too.  I don't know, I am all for keeping it to three hours but come on. Oh well.

I was happy to see Modern Family win again as we just started watching it this summer and it's comedy gold.  But, I would have liked to have seen the love spread around a bit too - I love me some Big Bang Theory too and think it's time for the nerds to have their day.  I've never watched Homeland - I honestly thought Breaking Bad would win, but they've also won a lot in the past too (for good reason - very intense but well done show), so maybe it's time for another show to shine in that category too.  And I'm sorry - best comedy actor - Jon Cryer, really?  Sorry to any fans, but that show is soooo past it's prime.

Back to my outfit, I do wish this yellow skirt was a little more on the mustard side - I think that might be a color I'll be looking for either in pants or a skirt to take me into winter a bit more.  But for today, this bright yellow guy works!
