Currently in April

Happy April and Happy Spring!  No April Fools here.  I hate April Fools Day to be perfectly honest! Instead, I'm here with my favorite link up of the month, Currently with Anne of In Residence and Jenna from Dearest Love!  Here are some current happenings in my world!

--Currently I am--

Wearing - So I have worn a variation of this first outfit on the blog before, but I love these jeans and this sweater from Target pretty hardcore.  This was what I wore to a baby shower for my cousin the other day.  If it's a weekend, I'm pretty much guaranteed to be in something like this.

Sweater and jeans - Target
Bag and necklace - Stella and Dot
shoes from friend

Otherwise I'm wearing all the spring colors now that it's spring.  These next two looks are looks I pulled together for the Pinned It Spinned It challenge I follow on Instagram.  I have so much fun remixing the looks that the two gals who put it together choose!

Dress - Mossimo (Target), Jacket - F21 (two birds garage sale)
Leggings, shoes, scarf - Target,
bracelets - S&D and Ollie's birthstone (gift from my clinic)

Sweater - Mossimo (Target), Skirt - LOFT (thrifted)
Bag - Coach Outlet, Shoes - DSW
Necklace - S&D

Sipping - At this very moment?  My coffee.  In my awesome giant purple travel mug.  If it was happy hour I'd probably be sipping a beer - likely an IPA, so many good fresh hopped ones come out in the spring!  Or I'd love to be sipping a margarita.  Or this new concoction Nate made us one night that has lime juice, gin and mint liquor.  It's rather refreshing.  Is it 5:00 yet?  No? Ok.  Coffee it is.

Wishlisting  - I have a couple of items I'd like to add to my closet for spring and summer.  I still would like to find a pair of white jeans even if I think that's crazy talk because I'm messy and I have a toddler at home.  I also would love a pleated pale pink skirt.  I am trying to decide if the gaucho pants craze is for me.  I tried on two pairs at Target and was not impressed, so I'm thinking maybe not.  But some more pixie pants from Old Navy in spring colors would be fantastic!  I'd also like to replace my boyfriend jeans because the pair I had are just no good anymore.  I'm also looking for a nice emerald green cardigan.

Writing - Besides this blog post, not much!  Some to do lists I suppose and if writing stuff in Ollie's scrapbook counts I suppose there's that, although I haven't done as much work on that lately either.

Exploring - Now that it's been nice out we're trying to explore more outdoor things again.  We've been to the Como Zoo in St. Paul a number of times now but I'd really like to take Ollie to the MN Zoo which is a lot bigger.  They have a Farm Baby exhibit during April, so it might be fun to go see that.  I also just read that our Landscape Arboretum is getting a Lego sculpture exhibit in May - we saw one in St. Louis last summer and it was awesome, so we will definitely be going to check this one out too!

And that's about it for now! We're definitely keeping busy and enjoying the sunshine and nice weather whenever we can! What are you currently up to?

Thrift Style Thursday - New Year Style Resolutions

Woo hoo, Thrift Style Thursday is back!  So very excited to be back at sharing weekly thrifted outfits and finds with my fellow Thrift Style Thursday gals.  We took December to regroup and refocus and I love what we're bringing your way this year.  Each week a different one of us is going to host - and the host also is the one who chooses the theme for that week too.  This week Zhenya of Being Zhenya is our host and she chose the theme of "New Year" - new style, old style, what are our style resolutions?

For me, I think I'm not making resolutions or even really a new style so to speak as much as I'm continuing to define the style identity I finally discovered late last year.  I kind of realized my style is "Working Mom Casual Chic."  I don't get super dressed up anymore, but I want to still look cute and trendy.  I need my wardrobe to be as functional as it is stylish - appropriate not just for work but for chasing around a one year old.  I don't want to have to think super hard about my style choices either.

I'm doing pretty well with this so far.  I've started pulling more and more items out of my closet that just seem to no longer fit with who I am.  I'm getting back into really working on re-mixing my closet too, trying to come up with new combinations.  I'm back to having more fun getting dressed and I rarely have a day that I feel uncomfortable in what I wear.

Sweater - Mossimo (Target), Pants - No Boundaries (thrifted)
Scarf - Christmas gift, Boots - Target

I'm happy to say I've really worked on variety too and I feel like I finally have a lot of color when I open my closet.  This isn't to say neutrals are bad, but I was starting to feel like I had a lot of the same color for awhile there - especially gray.  This is something I plan to continue in 2015.  Color just makes me happy.

Dress - Old Navy (thrifted), Sweater - Herbergers
Tights - Old Navy, Boots - Target,
Scarf - Handmade (gift from sister-in-law)
Purse - Vintage Coach (thrifted)

So that's where I'm at.  Not much new in terms of style this year, just continuing to work on what I already learned about myself!  It's always going to be a work in progress.  I'd love to do an only thrifted wardrobe for a year too - I tell you I went to the mall a couple of weeks ago to get some shoes for Oliver and after that I feel like I wouldn't be missing much if I did stop shopping new - but I still can't help my weakness for Target and Old Navy.  All the other stores I could kiss goodbye right now, but not those two, dang it!

What are your style resolutions?  Be sure to check out the other Thrift Style Thursday gals blogs to see what they plan for 2015!  The images below in this sweet new graphic made by Brittany from Lipstick and Yarn are clickable!

Slow and Steady

I try to keep variety here on the blog but you get another outfit post today because 1. my outfit today is cute, at least I think so. 2. I was pretty much just home with Oliver all day watching Sesame Street and Curious George and 3. I'm back at work once again!  It's a marathon, not a sprint, in terms of Ollie's recovery from this virus, so we're going one day at a time.  Today he seemed OK enough for me to go in.  It's also the only day I'm working this week so then I can be back home snuggling him the rest of the week for the holidays.

I actually enjoyed my day with Oliver yesterday in spite of his sickness.  He perked up some after a good nap and was in the mood to play some.  I introduced him to Sesame Street for the first time and he seems to love my beloved Muppets as much as I do.  I even don't mind that he likes Elmo - Elmo seems less annoying to me than he once was.  He also loves Murray the monster as well.  So we just hung out, he slept some, cuddled with me some (which I never mind at all!) and we just took it moment by moment and by the end of the day I could see some improvement again.  Now we just need to help him get his appetite back and I think we'll be on the road to recovery.

It is so hard to have your child be sick when they're this little and can't talk to you.  I will admit hitting a breaking point multiple times in frustration, but also helplessness too.  But, again, I survived and I'll be better equipped to deal with it the next go round, but I'm hoping he won't be quite this sick again until maybe he is talking more and can tell mommy what doesn't feel good!

Vest - via swap, Dress - Old Navy
Leggings and boots - Target, Purse - Coach Outlet

I'm not going to jinx anything and say that I think Oliver is on the mend (though fingers crossed).  For now we're just going to keep going one day at a time.  Slow and steady wins the race and I'm sure pretty soon my crazy active boy will be back and making me chase after him again any day now.  I look forward to it!

Roller Coaster Weekend

It was a bit of an up and down weekend at our house.  Overall I'd say I've had better, but we press on! Here's a little recap so you can see what I mean.

Friday I was lucky enough to get out for another Twin Cities Moms Blog event down at the new Premium Outlet Mall in Eagan, MN.  It was a ton of fun, they had free wine, free waxing and lots of swag as always and of course, being at the outlet mall you couldn't not shop!  I snagged some great stuff for Oliver at the Gymboree and Janie and Jack Outlets.  There also may have been a stop in the Coach Outlet and everything in the store might have been 50% off and my enabler friends might have convinced me to buy this purse.

Happy early birthday to me!  It's a great size, shape and color for winter and what can I say, I'm weak. Nate's grandmother in St. Louis always sends us money for our birthdays so I'll just say this was an advance on the check that's coming or something like that!

Saturday we braved the cold weather and met up with Erin from Due Midwest Photography to get our family photos taken for our Christmas card and some fun ones in advance of Ollie's first birthday.  I think she got some cute shots, I'm anxious to see how they turn out!

The rest of the day on Saturday found both Nate and I not feeling the greatest, but we pulled ourselves together enough to go have dinner at his parents house.  While Nate made some soup to bring over there Ollie played his new favorite game, Peek A Boo Taylor.

We had a nice dinner with Nate's parents but headed home pretty early since we were both kind of wiped out from feeling slightly lousy and not sleeping great on Friday.

I slept much better Saturday night thankfully.  Nate still wasn't 100% but seemed like he was doing pretty good, so we got Ollie out of the house for a bit during the day and walked at the mall.  We hung out and laid low otherwise and then had dinner with some friends in the evening and enjoyed some time in their hot tub.  Then after we got home the roller coaster dipped down again and Nate woke up in the night when I was up feeding Ollie and was pretty sick.  So it was a bit of a long night after that and I am dragging a bit today.

I managed to dress Ollie and I in pretty cute matching fox looks today though even being dog tired!  I got this cute new shirt for him at the Gymboree Outlet and I couldn't resist!

I had to wear my favorite fox shirt to match of course!  I didn't manage to get a picture of the two of us together, but I still thought we matched each other pretty well because once again, I am a Mom Dork.  (I should make a new hashtag for that).

Nate stayed home today to try to get a bit of rest and over this bug.  I mostly feel pretty good other than being tired and now we're just hoping beyond hope Ollie doesn't catch it!  We're hoping maybe he had a touch of food poisoning and therefore wasn't necessarily contagious, but I guess time will tell.  So there you go, a good and not so good weekend, but on we go!  How was your weekend?

Inspiration Monday - Sort of edgy

Hello everyone and happy Monday!  I've decided no matter what, this week is going to be tons better than last week.  We're all getting healthy at our house and back to normal and it's a fresh start.  And it's Halloween week!  How can that not be a good week?  I know last year I said I was the Halloween Grinch, but I'm pretty excited about it this year.  Anyway, I decided a way to kick off a great new week would be taking part in this week's Inspiration Monday with two birds.  Here we have an edgy look from Paula Patton.

My look isn't quite as edgy as hers, but it was a nice outfit for a Sunday afternoon at any rate!  I didn't do much more with this besides go to the thrift store to look for Halloween costumes, but hey, I want to look good when I go to the thrifts - don't you?

Jacket - Mossimo (Target), Flannel - Ruff Hewn (thrifted)
Jeans - Old Navy, Purse - Coach (Poshmark)
Shoes - from friend

We had a great weekend.  My meetup on Friday evening with Ally was absolutely delightful, we had a great dinner and conversation and my only regret was needing to cut things short to get Oliver to bed and head off to practice with my music group.  Saturday we let Nate sleep in since he was the last one to go down with the ship on getting this awful headcold.  After he got up though he was willing to go out for some lunch and pick up a birthday gift for his mom, so we enjoyed an outing to do all of that.  Saturday afternoon after Ollie's nap we went and had a family picture done at our church for the church directory and of course we ended up liking the portraits enough that we bought some.  I'm still planning to do some outdoor pictures for Ollie's first birthday though in the next month or so with the fabulous Erin of Babes in Thriftland so I'm hoping this nice weather lasts just a little longer!

Saturday evening we celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday with dinner, cake and games.  Sunday we got up and attempted disc golf though it was a bit chilly and we got a later start so Ollie was a little less patient than he usually is, so we only played about half the course and then brought him home for a nap.  Nate made us delicious biscuits and gravy for breakfast.  After Oliver's nap I brought him on adventure with me to the thrift store to get the rest of what we needed for our Halloween costumes - yeah I know, way to be last minute right?  During Oliver's afternoon nap, Nate also made one of the pieces for his costume too and I have to say, he's going to be pretty dang cute.

We capped off a beautiful day with a walk in our favorite park and Oliver got to swing in the swing so that made him super excited.  He went to bed and we had some of our favorite barbecue take out for dinner.  Overall it was a great and very much needed weekend!  How was your weekend?
