Thrift Style Thursday - America the Beautiful

Megan of Traverse suggested our Thrift Style Thursday theme this week to be America the Beautiful in honor of the July 4th holiday (or Canadian Pride for our Canada ladies!) so it was pretty much a given to me that my outfit would be red, white and blue and have an Americana feel to it!

I knew right away I'd be wearing this dress I thrifted a few years ago.  It's been a favorite of mine for awhile now, Nate always compliments me when I wear it!  I even managed to wear this one when I was pregnant too, so it's a pretty great dress all around!  I decided to pair it with this fun top my sweet Instagram buddy sent me, I thought it matched pretty well!  And I'm not real "Stars and Stripes" crazy or into a lot of patriotic flag wear for the July 4th holiday, so this type of look is a little more appealing to me.  And then I finished it out with my favorite Stella and Dot bag, because of there was ever a great bag for an Americana themed outfit, this bag would be it!

We keep things pretty low key for the 4th of July, especially when it falls on a weekend like this.  I don't even get a day off sadly, though I may end up taking a half day on Friday.  On the actual holiday I think we'll go disc golf in the morning like we would any other weekend and then after Oliver's nap in the afternoon we'll be going to my parents for a picnic.  I'm doubting Ollie will make it to fireworks again this year, but you never know.

Shirt - Old Navy (From friend), Dress - Unknown (Thrifted)
Sandals - Target, Bag - Stella and Dot (ThredUp)

And while this outfit is definitely fun and festive, I'm pretty sure on the actual 4th of July I'll be kicking back in denim shorts and a white top or something!  What will you do to celebrate the 4th of July?  And will you be wearing red white and blue?  Don't forget to check out the other Thrift Style Thursday gals at their blogs below and be sure to visit new member Alison's blog too!

Thrift Style Thursday - Cinco De Mayo

Happy Thrift Style Thursday!  And happy belated Cinco De Mayo!  This week's theme was chosen by yours truly.  I thought it would be fun to create a festive outfit to celebrate Cinco De Mayo and since a lot of places around here celebrate all week long, figured it also doesn't matter that it's no longer May 5th!  So, here is what I came up with!

For some reason, when I think of something Mexican inspired, I think of reds and oranges, so I wanted to feature those colors.  Probably because I'm thinking of spicy red peppers!  I added this fun scarf and even wore it a couple of different ways here - it would be a good shall for a cool evening celebration, but I also just wore it around my neck as well for  different look.

We're pretty big fans of margaritas and Mexican food at our house.  I think we have a Mexican style meal just about once a week, so it's always like Cinco de Mayo! We rotate between tacos, fajitas and nachos.  Once we start getting good fresh veggies from our CSA we'll rotate in Nate's awesome homemade enchiladas too.  I shared the recipe for those last summer in this post if your curious!

Shirt - Express (thrifted), Dress - thrifted
Scarf - Garage Sale, Sandals - Target

Our Cinco de Mayo was low key, we enjoyed a margarita and nachos at home.  If we had gone out somewhere though I would likely have worn this fun outfit!  It'll just have to do for a day at the office instead, I'll just have a fiesta at my desk.  Desk Fiesta, ole!

Your Spring Style - Spring Transitions

I'm joining up a fun link up this month with Shea of Shea Lennon and Anne from In Residence that is all about Spring Style!  Today we're talking about Spring Transitions - pieces in our closet that can carry over from the winter season a bit.

I chose a look based on yesterday's Inspiration Monday look from two birds with Jamie Chung and styled it around this fun dress I got from one of my MN blogger friends.  It's a super fun bird print and is a great spring and summer dress.  I carried over one of my favorite gray cardigans and some fun red accents - necklace, bag and shoes - all items that I would use in any season really.

I unfortunately had to add tights too because it was rather chilly here in MN yesterday (still is).  I think cardigans are great transition pieces, they really transcend seasons well because you can layer up as much or as little as you want underneath them!

Dress - from friend, Sweater - American Eagle (thrifted)
Bag and necklace - Stella and Dot, Tights - Old Navy

After I came in the house I realized I hadn't gotten a good shot with the shoes, so I took one more picture inside and my little ham decided to pose with me.  Other than his Kermit shoes he's really dressed more for winter, I do like the sweatshirt he has on though, it's lighter weight than some sweatshirts, so I guess I could say that is his spring transition piece!

What are your go to seasonal transition items?

Thrift Style Thursday - All About That Bass

I think Brittany from Lipstick and Yarn just really wanted us all to have Meghan Trainor stuck in our heads all day when she picked this week's theme!  I'm kidding, but I bet you're all singing that song now!

This week, we're showcasing our thrifted pants.  I chose a pair of red corduroys I bought in early January and somehow haven't worn yet.  I think I need to do a closet sweep again, seriously. Anyway, I love how soft and comfy these are - and it got super cold again overnight, so corduroy is the perfect solution for that!

I have been wearing a lot of pants this winter as my style has changed a bit.  I still love skirts and dresses in the spring and summer, but I find myself shying away from them more in the winter unless they're a sweaterdress or something more on the casual side.  I've professed my love of the Old Navy pixie pants a bunch of times on the blog, but I would say my next favorite place to shop for pants is definitely the thrift store.  I've had especially good luck in finding colored denim or colored pants like these.  I find you have to have patience when thrifting pants, it can be pretty hit or miss with selection, but every now and then you strike gold like I did with these!  I also recommend always looking at the size above and below the size you normally wear if you're thrifting pants - sometimes the larger size will fit more like your normal size because they'll have shrunk from washing and sometimes the smaller size will surprise you, especially if it's a brand you haven't tried before.

Sweater - Old Navy (from IG friend), Shirt - LOFT (thrifted)
Pants - LOFT (thrifted), Boots - Target
Scarf - Secret Santa swap

I feel pretty set on pants now, so I'm slowing down in my thrifting a bit for winter here and waiting for warmer weather and then I'll start looking for more summery things like skirts again!  Although I'm always on the quest for the perfect jeans - why are those so hard to find??

Please be sure to check out all my fellow Thrift Style Thursday gals at their blogs below and see how they're showcasing their best thrifted bottoms!
