Thrift Style Thursday - Thrift Haul

This week's Thrift Style Thursday post will be a little different in that I'm not actually in any of the photos.  Zhenya of Being Zhenya suggested a theme of "Thrift Haul" and encouraged us to share a recent haul of goodies.  This is somewhat timely for me actually.  As I've been going through my closet and seriously overhauling and pulling out all the things that just no longer fit, I found myself in a sudden panic of having nothing to wear.  Nate suggested I hit up the thrift store while Ollie was napping a couple of weekends ago so I could replace just a few of the items I parted with.  Here are some of the things I bought - I had a budget set for myself of around $25 and pretty much stuck to it. Most of the items are transition pieces for spring too.  Here we go.

I focused mostly on cardigans, but I also found a couple of regular shirts and then as I've said many times before, I'm often on the quest for the perfect jeans and even more so now that I'm trying to wear jeans that aren't two sizes too big.  I couldn't decide between these two - one pair is Mossimo brand from Target and the other is a pair of good old Levi's.  Since they were cheap enough I decided I'd just get them both.

Next up is a shirt I fell in love with.  I'm such a sucker for lace and girly things, so when I saw this shirt from Express I decided I needed it.  I should have photographed the back of it too, the lace goes all the way down - which means I'll need a tank top or cami on with this, but it'll be a nice piece for spring and summer with jeans or a skirt.

I love my patterns and I especially love plaid.  I know the colors in this next shirt are a bit more Fall like, but I just couldn't resist it - and it's also J Crew.  Finding J Crew at the thrift store is finding gold.

I have to laugh at these next two.  I only intended to buy one of them, but the other one accidentally was still in my cart when I went to check out and I didn't even realize it until the cashier had literally rang it through.  It's not a big deal, they're just a similar color scheme, but it is one of my favorites for Spring - mint - so hey, the more the merrier I guess!

And next is an item that wasn't on my list but I couldn't help myself - this Merona black purse.  I have always struggled with finding a black purse I actually like, and I may even still be on the fence on this one, but I will say this is nice and light to carry, it has a crossbody strap and it can be zipped down on the sides for more room, so it's kind of neat.  I'll give it a good try anyway. I don't know why I have such a hard time finding a black purse that I love.

And this last item I am in love with too, it's a little more "wintery" feeling but I hope to get some good wears out of it before it warms up too much.  I have been looking for a shirt like this for quite a while, so I was excited to find this LOFT sweater and all sweaters were 50% off that day, so I couldn't not bring this one home with me!

So there you go!  I'd say that's a pretty good sized haul.  I am going to be slowing up on my spending a bit here since we have to start looking at cars for Nate among other things at home, but I think I did a pretty good job of finding some nice items (that actually fit!!) to help re-build my closet a bit.  It'll be a work in progress, but this is a good start.

Target Special

Happy Friday!  I'm kind of phoning it in with an outfit post today - it was a long and at times difficult week at work, so this is just the best my brain can do today.  Not to mention, I'm kind of in love with everything I'm wearing today and it's funny, pretty much the entire outfit is a Target special.  The only piece that isn't is the knit scarf my sister-in-law made me for my birthday!

Sweater - Mossimo (Target), Jeans - Mossimo (Target)
Scarf - handmade from SIL, Booties - Target

These jeans are my new favorite thing ever.  They're made of very stretchy material and feel more like you're wearing leggings or something.  But they're jeans.  And they are awesome.  And I think I finally found a pair that fits relatively well.  The sweater was a steal, it was on clearance already and then they had a 20% off deal on Cartwheel for all women's clothes - including clearance - so this was a no brainer!  Anyway, it's warm and comfy for a casual snowy Friday at work.

I hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay warm, sounds like many of you are experiencing the same cold weather we're having here in Minnesota!

Inspiration Monday - Ride Em Cowboy

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  We did, we got Oliver out of the house for a little bit as we always try to do and went over to our Children's Museum for a bit.  We had a chance to check out the new Sid the Science Kid exhibit there.  I thought it might beyond him age wise, but he actually liked it quite a bit!

Anyway, I decided to take this two birds Inspiration Monday picture of Anne Hathaway and put it together for a "going to the museum" look yesterday.

I've been a little afraid of the "double denim" idea for awhile now, so I wasn't sure how I'd like this, but I think it turned out ok.  The only problem (besides these terrible cell phone pictures) was Nate said I kind of looked like a cowboy.  Or well, I guess cowgirl in this case?

Shirt - American Eagle (thrifted), Jeans - Old Navy
Boots - from friend

He recovered well and said "but I think that's idea right?  You want to look sort of western right?" Well I guess that is kind of the idea!  I still ended up throwing a scarf and vest on with this though just to break up the denim a wee bit before we headed to the museum.  It was fun to give this look a try though!  Have you ever worn a double denim look before?

Inspiration Monday - Momiform

Happy Monday friends!  Today I'm participating in two birds' Inspiration Monday because as soon as I saw their choice for the week from Kristen Stewart here, I knew I could easily do this one.  Because let's face it, this is kind of a good example of a "Mom uniform" or "Momiform" as I've decided to call it.

Flannel, sweater and jeans?  Check, check, check.  Easy peasy.  This is probably even more than I'd normally even do on a weekend, some weekends I never make it out of my yoga pants and sweatshirt, let's face it.  But I had a good reason to get dressed on Saturday, we decided to take Oliver to an indoor playground and out to lunch, so I figured more of an effort was probably a good thing.

And of course I took these pictures rather quickly on my cell phone again.  I am so not happy with the quality it's producing lately.  It's really time to look at that.  But anyway, you get the general idea I think! I was warm and cozy to go to the indoor playground and that's what mattered!

Sweater - Mossimo (Target), Flannel - thrifted
Jeans - American Eagle (thrifted), Shoes - from mom

Once we got to the playground I realized I was dressed up more than just about any of the other moms - and I don't even consider this dressed up!  Let's just say I could have stayed in those yoga pants and been in good company.  No judgement here though!  I get it.  But hey, at least I was dressed cute for lunch!
