Thrift Style Thursday - America the Beautiful

Megan of Traverse suggested our Thrift Style Thursday theme this week to be America the Beautiful in honor of the July 4th holiday (or Canadian Pride for our Canada ladies!) so it was pretty much a given to me that my outfit would be red, white and blue and have an Americana feel to it!

I knew right away I'd be wearing this dress I thrifted a few years ago.  It's been a favorite of mine for awhile now, Nate always compliments me when I wear it!  I even managed to wear this one when I was pregnant too, so it's a pretty great dress all around!  I decided to pair it with this fun top my sweet Instagram buddy sent me, I thought it matched pretty well!  And I'm not real "Stars and Stripes" crazy or into a lot of patriotic flag wear for the July 4th holiday, so this type of look is a little more appealing to me.  And then I finished it out with my favorite Stella and Dot bag, because of there was ever a great bag for an Americana themed outfit, this bag would be it!

We keep things pretty low key for the 4th of July, especially when it falls on a weekend like this.  I don't even get a day off sadly, though I may end up taking a half day on Friday.  On the actual holiday I think we'll go disc golf in the morning like we would any other weekend and then after Oliver's nap in the afternoon we'll be going to my parents for a picnic.  I'm doubting Ollie will make it to fireworks again this year, but you never know.

Shirt - Old Navy (From friend), Dress - Unknown (Thrifted)
Sandals - Target, Bag - Stella and Dot (ThredUp)

And while this outfit is definitely fun and festive, I'm pretty sure on the actual 4th of July I'll be kicking back in denim shorts and a white top or something!  What will you do to celebrate the 4th of July?  And will you be wearing red white and blue?  Don't forget to check out the other Thrift Style Thursday gals at their blogs below and be sure to visit new member Alison's blog too!

Weekend Snapshots

Three day weekends are lovely aren't they?  We certainly made the most of ours!  I wish all weekends could be three days long, seriously!  Here are some snapshots from our weekend - I apologize if you follow me on Instagram, these are going to be some repeats.

Friday was an absolutely gorgeous day.  We definitely took advantage of the weather and ate outside at a restaurant with a patio we like and then stopped at a park with Ollie on the way home.  This park had a different kind of swing than what he's used to, but he kind of dug it cause he could just kind of lay back and chill!

After we got home and got him off to bed, Nate built us a lovely fire in our firepit and we sat out for a couple of hours enjoying each other's company and a little of the Norseman Strawberry Rhubarb Gin that was just released - local peeps, I'm not much of a gin fan, but this stuff is amazing and makes a great gin and tonic, you should check it out!

Saturday morning Nate got up and golfed with my dad and "brother" Dave while my mom and I took Ollie on some errands with us.  After Nate got back and Ollie had napped, we went to a barbecue at a friend's house, though the weather wasn't super great.  Ollie still had fun chasing their puppies and causing general mayhem though!

Sunday the weather really turned sour, so we ventured over to the Children's Museum with Nate's parents for a little bit.  Ollie looked for more puppies in the big doghouse, but he didn't manage to find any.

We had lunch with Nate's parents and then headed home.  While Ollie napped I met up with Zhenya (Being Zhenya) and we finally purchased the items for our Gift of Thrift winner.  I'm super excited about the items we're sending, I sure hope our winner likes them!  I also snatched up a few things for myself since I haven't technically put myself on a shopping ban quite yet.  Then I headed home and we took Ollie over the mall to walk around a bit since it was STILL raining.  We had spaghetti for dinner and then got him off to bed and we zoned out to a movie.

Monday it was finally not raining, so we attempted disc golf in the morning, but holy was the park WET.  Ollie thought the puddles were the best thing ever of course.  We only played a few holes before I called it (it's not fun walking around in wet socks and shoes unless you've been on a water ride or something!).  We dried out at home a little and then went to get me some new walking shoes before our trip next week.  Then we met up with Nate's sister and her boyfriend for a quick lunch.

After Ollie's nap, it was finally nice outside again, so after a quick trip to get some stuff for dinner, he and I played outside while Nate cooked and I introduced him to the magical world of bubbles.  And I think I have my newest favorite picture of him ever.

As Chandler from Friends might say "could this child BE any happier?"  It was the best way to end the weekend I thought!  We also hit up the park too, but the bubbles were the highlight, hands down.

So it was a great and somewhat productive three day weekend even if it was mostly wet.  And of course, I don't forget the reason we had a three day weekend in the first place - thank you to all the men and women who have served and paid the ultimate price.

On we go into what could be either a fast week or one that drags because our vacation is so close we can taste it!!

Easter in Pictures

Hello!  Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great Easter weekend.  We did!  It was pretty low key and relaxed, but that's just the way I like it.  I wanted to share some photos we took yesterday in between church and our brunch, because I loved not just my outfit, but Oliver's as well.  My only regret is we didn't get any pictures of Nate because he was more or less behind the camera!

He wasn't crazy about the hat at first, but then seemed willing to keep it on, so even though it was chilly out, we headed outside to take some more pictures.  So, lots of pictures coming, few words.

I love how our outfits ended up coordinated more or less.  My dress is from Target, they had a great BOGO on dresses a couple of weeks ago.  Ollie's entire outfit is Carter's except his hat is from Target as well.

Seriously, he's such a heartbreaker.  Watch out ladies!

Anyway, we had a great day, we had brunch with my parents, then let Ollie take a nap and Nate built a little bonfire for the two of us.  We went for a walk even though it was chilly and then just grilled some hamburgers for dinner.  I'm beginning to really appreciate these low key, laid back holidays!

How was your weekend and Easter?

St. Patrick's Day 2015

Happy St. Patrick's Day one and all!  I have my green on, but you don't get to see it until Thursday because it's part of my Thrift Style Thursday post this week.  Instead, I'll share some pictures of my favorite little leprechaun instead!

He's rocking his green and he's rocking his awesome new Kermit shoes!  He sure is confident in these bad boys, we can hardly keep him still.  Instead of walking -  he runs!

And the luck of the Irish sure seems to be with us - I can't believe I'm saying it out loud - but Mr. Ollie slept through the night last night.  The ENTIRE night.  7:15pm until 6:30am.  I know, why am I jinxing this by saying it out loud??  I'm not so naive as to think this is a permanent thing - but he did it last week for his grandparents too, so I think we're turning a corner on this waking up business. We'll go one day at a time, but for this mama suffering a slight headcold, not getting up with him last night was glorious.  So come on lucky charm, let's keep this streak going!

Other than that our St. Patrick's Day isn't going to be terribly exciting, but we do have corned beef in our crockpot waiting for us when we get home and we'll be enjoying some reuben sandwiches and maybe a green beer tonight for dinner.  Ok, maybe just a beer in a green can or bottle.  That totally counts right?  May the luck of the Irish be with you all today!
