Thrift Style Thursday - New Year Style Resolutions

Woo hoo, Thrift Style Thursday is back!  So very excited to be back at sharing weekly thrifted outfits and finds with my fellow Thrift Style Thursday gals.  We took December to regroup and refocus and I love what we're bringing your way this year.  Each week a different one of us is going to host - and the host also is the one who chooses the theme for that week too.  This week Zhenya of Being Zhenya is our host and she chose the theme of "New Year" - new style, old style, what are our style resolutions?

For me, I think I'm not making resolutions or even really a new style so to speak as much as I'm continuing to define the style identity I finally discovered late last year.  I kind of realized my style is "Working Mom Casual Chic."  I don't get super dressed up anymore, but I want to still look cute and trendy.  I need my wardrobe to be as functional as it is stylish - appropriate not just for work but for chasing around a one year old.  I don't want to have to think super hard about my style choices either.

I'm doing pretty well with this so far.  I've started pulling more and more items out of my closet that just seem to no longer fit with who I am.  I'm getting back into really working on re-mixing my closet too, trying to come up with new combinations.  I'm back to having more fun getting dressed and I rarely have a day that I feel uncomfortable in what I wear.

Sweater - Mossimo (Target), Pants - No Boundaries (thrifted)
Scarf - Christmas gift, Boots - Target

I'm happy to say I've really worked on variety too and I feel like I finally have a lot of color when I open my closet.  This isn't to say neutrals are bad, but I was starting to feel like I had a lot of the same color for awhile there - especially gray.  This is something I plan to continue in 2015.  Color just makes me happy.

Dress - Old Navy (thrifted), Sweater - Herbergers
Tights - Old Navy, Boots - Target,
Scarf - Handmade (gift from sister-in-law)
Purse - Vintage Coach (thrifted)

So that's where I'm at.  Not much new in terms of style this year, just continuing to work on what I already learned about myself!  It's always going to be a work in progress.  I'd love to do an only thrifted wardrobe for a year too - I tell you I went to the mall a couple of weeks ago to get some shoes for Oliver and after that I feel like I wouldn't be missing much if I did stop shopping new - but I still can't help my weakness for Target and Old Navy.  All the other stores I could kiss goodbye right now, but not those two, dang it!

Unofficial Thrift Style Thursday

Well I'm just a creature of habit.  Even though we're taking Thrift Style Thursday off this month as a group, I still wanted to share a thrifty outfit because A. it's cute and B. as I said, it's kind of habit at this point!

Truth be told this outfit isn't super thrifted - the skirt is actually a sweater dress that I got from Tandem Vintage - though I got a great deal because owner Amanda is a friend and a total sweetheart, but sometimes just because something is vintage doesn't mean it's going to be cheap!  I got lucky on this one!  I thought it would make a great skirt if I pull a sweater over it, and I really like the look, it really modernizes it quite a bit!

Sweater - St. John's Bay (JCPenney), Dress as Skirt - Tandem Vintage (formerly Salvaged Strawberry), Tights and boots - Old Navy, Necklace - Stella and Dot, Bag - Merona (Target)

I'm dressed for kicking butt and taking names today - I had tried to go to the post office late in the day yesterday to get some blog Secret Santa packages mailed out and the line was out the door.  I should have known better honestly, but I was still a little surprised.  We moved two inches in 10 minutes and I had to go get Ollie, so I just said fine, I'll get there right when they open in the morning and just duck out of work for a few minutes.  So I did just that and I was the second person in line.  In, out, done.  Boom.  Sorry to my Secret Santa giftees that your gifts are coming one day later, but they're on their way now!  And that's pretty much my only story today!

Plaid + Stripes = Fall

Gasp, an outfit post on a day that isn't Thrift Style Thursday? What is this craziness??  I've been trying harder to get more than one outfit post on the blog in a week but it just hasn't been happening lately.  But here I am today!  I just loved the look I pulled together today, if this doesn't scream "FALL", I don't know what does!

I combined two of my favorite prints - plaid and stripes.  Top it off with a denim jacket and boots and it's just the perfect fall outfit.  Not to toot my own horn or anything, but toot toot.  The end.

Jacket - White House, Black Market (Consignment), Plaid shirt - Old Navy
Skirt - Merona (Target), Boots - Target
Necklace - Charming Charlie

It's nice enough that bare legs aren't terrible today.  I do look forward to wearing tights, but I also enjoy not having to deal with them quite yet! There will be plenty of time for that!

What type of clothing screams Fall to you?

Thrift Style Thursday - Mad about Plaid

You guys!  Plaid is my favorite ever! I was so excited about this week's Thrift Style Thursday's Mad About Plaid theme.  Because I'm crazed with relatives in town, I decided to go easy on this week and feature my favorite thrifted plaid pants of all time and the various ways I have worn them!

They've often been called my Brady Bunch pants, my wild pants, my crazy pants, etc.  They are so comfy, they go with so many things and I will never tire of them ever!  Viva la Plaid No Boundaries brand pants!

Thrift Style Thursday - Cute and quirky

This week we're showcasing something cute and quirky for Thrift Style Thursday.  I don't think it gets more quirky than loud plaid pants!  Long time readers of my blog will know I thrifted these bad boys a couple of years ago now and they're one of my frequent flyer pieces - I don't even know if I could count the number of ways I've styled them at this point!

For "cute" I added in one of my other thrifted closet staples - my famed "suicide shoes" (named as such by the Pants Monkey because I used to trip in them).  I tend to not wear these shoes much in the winter since they're clogs (clogs plus ice and snow just equals no).  I also didn't wear them much last summer due to being pregnant, so I'm kind of excited to be able to wear them again!

And finally the other "thrifted" piece is actually from a consignment store - but it's also cute and quirky I think - at the very least it's unique - and that would be my favorite leather Coach bag.  It's not their typical style and I think that's why I like it, I love the braided detail on the top of the handle and I love the metal hardware on it.  This is definitely one of my favorite bags.  All in all I think this is a fun look for work today and also for the Twin Cities Mom's Blog Mom's Night Out event I'm going to tonight after work.  Any other local moms going tonight?  Look for me!  I'll be hard to miss in my crazy pants here!

Shirt - Dress Barn, Pants - No Boundaries (thrifted)
Necklace - Charming Charlie, Shoes - Steve Madden (thrifted)
Bag - Coach (consignment)
