Inspiration Monday - Opposites Day

When I was in elementary school, some of the obnoxious boys in my class made up a game called "opposites day."  So for example, they'd say to you "hey I like you" and you'd go "Really?" while swooning as much as you can at age 9 and then they crush you by going "nope, it's opposites day!"  Ah, youth.

Anyway, it's Inspiration Monday and I went for kind of an opposite color on top and bottom as our inspiration model here:

This young lady's name is Leven Ramblin, and I had to do some Googling to find out she's been on All My Children and she'll be in the Hunger Games movie that is coming out in March - I'm quite excited about it actually.

I have no colored pants but oh do I wish I did!  Since I don't, I decided to do this outfit backwards and go pink on top and gray on the bottom.

And you can see I'm still living in my headcold haze.  I'm starting to come out of it slowwwwwwly.  Anyway,  it's damp and gray here today so I thought I would go for a sweater, because I always seem to end up colder in damp weather than actual cold weather.

So I kept the color scheme from this week's inspiration anyway!  Gave me an excuse to wear the necklace I got with part of my Maurices's gift card from Casual Chic Kiki!

Today's rundown:
Shirt - Axcess by Clairborne, thrifted from Clothes Mentor
Sweater - Old Navy - thrifted
Pants - Worthington, JCPenney
Necklace - Maurices
Shoes - handed down from mom

Neutral Challenge Final Day - Pop of Color

So for the final day of the Neutral Color challenge week, we can add a pop of color. I chose to keep it pretty simple actually, as I'm still recovering from my cold.  I'm much better than I have been though and was even able to leave the house today!

So the pop of color I've chosen to add to this outfit is a lavender t-shirt.  I realize it isn't much, but it makes this gray sweater less gray and dull.  I also went for a lighter color blue jean as well.

I had to get a close up shot so you could see the fun button detail on this sweater, one of the few things from Aeropostale I still own and love!

This week was so much fun, even if I did get sick in the middle of it!  I think my favorite outfit from the week was my Cognac look.  What was your favorite?  Share with me in the comments if you wish!

And I do hope that even though the challenge week is over, if you were visiting my blog as part of the challenge that you'll come back again, I love what I do and sharing it with others and I love making new friends!  Thanks for all the nice comments and for sharing my journey with me this week!

Neutral Challenge Day 5 - Navy

So unfortunately my nasty cold turned into more of a virus, so I'm home on a sick day. It came on yesterday afternoon and I came home early to shiver under blankets on my couch and fight the fever away.  Fortunately, it's gone now, but I'm still home taking it easy.

I'm bummed though because I had a cute outfit picked out for today's Neutral color of Navy.  So, I decided, even if I'm not wearing it, I could still share it with you all!

I was so excited to wear this jean skirt with leggings, I was going to wear cute bunched up socks and little boots.  It was going to be a fun casual Friday outfit and I will hopefully get to wear it another time!  It's funny, I thought Navy was going to be difficult, but really, because of jeans, it is quite easy!

See I'm even wearing Navy for my sick clothes!

True fashion blogger to the end I guess!  I stick with my challenge no matter what!

Rundown of what I wanted to wear:
T-shirt - Threadless.com
Skirt - LOFT thrifted from Clothes Mentor
Sweater - Lands End
Leggings - Xhilaration, Target
Purse - Coach, purchased via Ebay

Sick clothes:
Shirt - Old Navy
Bear pj bottoms - Aerie by American Eagle Outfitters

Neutrals Challenge Day 4 - Cognac

I really like how my outfit turned out today.  Yes, I am going to toot my own horn.  I think this looks nice.  Maybe you'll disagree, but that's ok, I still like it!

I got this sweater from my sister-in-law sort of as a birthday gift.  She had bought it for herself and couldn't figure out what to do with it.  She told me about it on Thanksgiving and said "I think I might give it to you.  Maybe I'll even wrap it up and make it part of your present.  You'll probably be able to figure out what to do with it better than I can."  So I said "hey, give it to me if that's what you want to do!"

It is large and drapey, but I knew I could pair it with some things and have it look pretty nice.  I had originally planned on mixing it with a skirt or dress, but practical me took over today and as I'm still recovering from my little cold, thought pants might be a better choice.

I did add some color today - a little red/maroon because there is a little red/maroon line in my plaid pants.  I thought it would add a little contrast too so I didn't end up looking totally washed out.

Anyway, I'm already brainstorming on other ways I can wear this sweater, I think it'll actually be pretty versatile for me!

Red thermal - Decree, JCPenney
Sweater/wrap - TJMaxx, gifted from my sister-in-law

Fashion Challenge Day 3 - Brown

Well, I'm not loving my outfit as much as I'd hoped today.  But I have a small headcold, so I was as creative as I could manage.  Pants and a warm sweater were a necessity that is for sure!

I had the opportunity to go to a unique party last night - called Bead for Life - it's an organization that helps Uganda - Ugandan women make beaded jewelry, it's sent to the Bead for Life organization here in the states and then people can host parties, much like a Stella and Dot or a Lia Sophia party, but the difference is, all the funds go to support those in need in Uganda.  The hostess receives nothing for doing this other than the satisfaction of helping those in need.  And, you don't have to wait for the jewelry, you can take it home with you.  My friend said she received a box with 250 pieces in it.  I did some Christmas shopping, but also got myself a couple of goodies.

Above is the necklace I bought - this picture doesn't even do it justice.  It has many brown hues, so I thought it would be a nice touch for my outfit today.

I also bought myself this bracelet - isn't it fun?  I love the colors - it will go with anything and everything.  So anyway, it was a neat experience and it's a good feeling knowing I helped make a difference with my purchase.

In other news, we're having a potluck in my office today.  I have to laugh - we're a health care organization but man, there are always so many opportunities to eat, and not necessarily in a healthy fashion.  I try my best to make good choices so I won't get through the holiday season and feel like I need to drop 20 pounds!

Hard to believe we're already halfway through Neutrals Week!  Tomorrow is Cognac and I have several ideas, so I'm looking forward to that!

Rundown:
Sweater - Mossimo, Target
T-shirt - Old Navy
Pants - Alfani, Macy's

Neutrals Week Day 2 - Gray

Gray is almost too easy for me - I own a ton of gray.  I'm not sure why, I think because it is one of those neutrals that goes with everything!  So, it was pretty easy selecting items for today's Neutral Challenge Gray day!

This sweater is one of my favorite finds from some thrifting I did this fall - it has really served me well so far!

I had some fun mixing different shades of gray today.  Dark to light.  I have items of gray clothing that have a little color too that I could have chosen, but for today I really pushed myself to have all gray.  Just for the fun of it really.  I like the result!

Plus, I'm warm, which is good since it was about 15 degrees here this morning!  Why do I live in MN again?  Ha ha ha!

Oh, if you ever had any doubts that I was a Muppet fan - look in the background of the last picture there - that's my Master Replica Kermit the Frog photo puppet.  If that doesn't make me the nerdiest girl you ever met, well, then, let's be BFF.

Rundown:
Thermal shirt - Mossimo, Target
Sweater - H&M, thrifted from Clothes Mentor
Pants - Tangent, Maurices

Neutral Challenge Day 1 - Black

So I've joined Megan and Keely for their Neutrals Fashion Challenge week.  Fun way to remix my wardrobe a bit!  Monday is Black, so this adorable dress I picked up at the Two Birds sale seemed to fit the bill perfectly!!

It's freaking houndstooth!!!  I adore houndstooth!  My mom went to the sale with me and when we saw this on the rack she's like "you have to try this on".  Patterns, I'm all about the patterns!

Add my black sweater, black tights and black shoes and I'm good to go!  I have other ideas for styling this lovely dress too, so I think it'll be a frequent flyer this winter!

I feel so totally chic today!  I love it!  Ignore the step stool in this last picture, I was going to do something with it and then at the last second decided not to.  Ha ha!  It's Monday, what can I say?

Rundown:
Dress - Vintage, Two Birds Boutique
Sweater - Mossimo, Target
